Greetings Ladies and Nobles:
The days are going by so fast that it sometimes feels like a blur. The Imperial Session in Daytona Beach, Florida, was a great success. Our officers learned a lot from the various seminars and we also managed to work in a little fun. Our new Imperial Potentate, Imperial Sir Gary Bergenske, has placed a lot of emphasis on creating new Nobles. His goal is to bring in at least 12,000 new Shriners during his year. Our quota is 35 to assist him meet his goal. I would ask that we do whatever is necessary to meet this quota. I got one just the other day, so we are looking for 34 more. Our Ceremonial is November 4th. Now is the time.
As I am preparing this article, the elected Divan is preparing for GLSA in Springfield, Illinois. We are really looking forward to working closer with our neighboring temples and this annual event allows us to tackle the issues as a group and to learn from each other
We continue to focus on our finances and I can assure you that the Finance Committee is working hard to prepare data and to provide guidance on all economic matters. With a declining membership that consists of mostly older Nobles that are life members, it is easy to see why we must make major adjustments to our business model if we are to continue in the future. In addition, our circus income gets less and less each year. Part of this is that we are serving a community that has decreased by approximately one-third. And, in general, the circus community is struggling against declining revenues and animal activist attacks. We follow our finances daily and cut everything we can possibly cut to keep the doors open. Yet, we are still in a very delicate situation and are dangerously close to being forced to sell assets. All of you will have received a decal gift with a request for a donation to the Shrine. Any donation of $50 or more will be rewarded with a very nice Shrine folding knife. I would ask our Nobles to get behind this program and be as generous as you can with your support. Also, you will soon receive an offer to buy a very nice watch with all the masonic symbols on it. This would be a great Christmas gift for any Shriner and the promoter pays us a commission of $40 back to the Shrine. Please support these programs as you are able.
Remember, next year is our 75th annual circus. We are going all out to promote this one. We are also asking all Nobles to consider taking out a business card size ad to raise revenue. This can be a congratulatory ad for the 75th or a memorial ad honoring a lost loved one. Remember, the comedy night show in Saginaw on September 29th. And, there are still a few seats left for the Ark Adventure on October 21-22. The Halloween Party is October 29th in Saginaw. We will have another comedy night at Circus Park on December 1 and our gun raffle, Christmas party, and joint installation at Circus Park on December 2. See Betty for the details on all of the above.
Best news of all! One of our embezzlers has been arrested by the FBI and pled guilty to stealing our money. The details are on Mlive. Praise the Lord.
